Aug 30, 2011·All except the corner forming tool can be ground on a belt sander; this tool is the only one I would use a bench grinder for if I needed one. Apr 26, 2016·We tend to get carried away in the woodturning world and tell everyone they need a Chuck, A slow speed grinder, A sharpening jig and lots of expensive High Speed Steel tools. Harbor Freight 1×30 Belt Sander Review | MachinistBlog

Mar 20, 2011·This is a review of the Harbor Freight 1×30 belt sander, model #2485. I noticed it was on sale and remembered Mikey telling me that a belt sander is a better tool for grinding lathe bits than a bench grinder. So I checked the customer reviews for it on their web site and they were generally very good. Then I searched for machinists who were using it to sharpen HSS metal lathe bits.

Lathe Tool Sharpening System : turning

I disagree that a wet grinder (Tormek or knock off) is a suitable primary lathe tool sharpening system. Aug 15, 2011·As a tool grinder the belt sander is almost ideal: Belt sanders cut very fast and very cool when you use the right belt and a wax stick lubricant.
