ebony fretboard vs rosewood fretboard

Ebony vs Rosewood Fretboard - Gibson USA - Gibson Brands ...

Jun 08, 2009·Interesting thread/poll, I voted rosewood, but that's because most of the guitars Ive owned and played had that, I only had 1 with ebony fretboard and it was a completely different animal than the rest of them so it's a little hard to compare, which makes me think I shouldn't have voted, maybe I should have left it to the ones that have experience with both but in the same model of guitar.

Rosewood vs Ebony fretboard : Bass

Slight difference. Like a lot of tonewood type stuff the audible distinction is slight and prone to cork-sniffing. The feel is a little different -- rosewood is softer / more porous than ebony or maple. The biggest reason is aesthetics IMHO. I don't love the look of rosewood myself, I prefer ebony or maple.

Guitar Fretboard Woods: The Ultimate Guide to Fingerboard ...

Renouncing the usual addition of a separate fingerboard, Fender’s first guitars had the frets embedded directly into the neck wood. Their guitars were a hit, and maple became one of the new leaders in fretboard woods. So it was that ebony, rosewood, and maple were the primary choices of fretboard woods for the greater part of the 20th century.

Sep 13, 2010·+ 1 for ebony. I love it. It doesn't "gum up" like rosewood, and especially on the Gretsches you have much more wood on the fingerboard (due to the small half-moon inlays). I like the bright, snappy tone of the ebony over the rosewood. I also really like the way it feels. I sweat quite a bit under the lights, and I can gum up a guitar pretty fast.

African Blackwood as a fingerboard, vs Ebony or BRW

Apr 24, 2010·Knock on an ebony fretboard blank, you'll get a somewhat dead thud, knock on an African blackwood blank and you'll get a wide range of frequencies and a long sustain. In any case the choice of wood for the fretboard and bridge doesn't make or break the tone of a steel string guitar.

Fingerboard selection: Brazilian rosewood vs ebony - The ...

Mar 30, 2010·Rosewood is cheaper. I think you would need to stretch your ears 20 miles in order to hear any difference between ebony and rosewood fingerboard (or any other fingerboard wood). On bridges this is bit different. Classical players prefer rosewood bridge over ebony as they feel ebony dampen the sound.

Fretless fingerboards: rosewood vs. ebony vs. ebonol

The ebony fretboard on the Lakland is really nice and has a lot of flexibility on tone with the on-board electronics they provide. There are a few dead spots, which are just to be expected with real wood fretboards. With the roundwonds, I have to give the fretboard a slight clean-up job every year just to keep the radius clean. I haven't

Jan 05, 2009·The fretboard is more of an aesthetic / feel / wear factor than a tonal factor on steel string acoustic guitars. Some folks prefer the dark ebony over the brown rosewood. Some folks prefer the feel of the smooth, tight grain of ebony over rosewood. Ebony and rosewood hold up well and last a long time. Tonal differences?

Sep 15, 2011·ebony will be brighter, you should also take into account where you live and the climate. i live in the reno /tahoe area and for me i can't even own a bass with a rosewood board, the lack of humidity just sucks all the oil out of the fingerboard and it shrinks and then you have problems like fret ends sticking out and grabbing your fingers.

Which Guitar Fretboard Wood is Best? Maple, Ebony or Rosewood?

May 13, 2021·However, unlike ebony and rosewood, maple does require a finish to protect it from the effects of humidity (unless you opt for roasted maple, see below!).So you are in effect playing the coasting that covers the fretboard, rather than the wood itself! This means that any maple fingerboard which has received a glossy finish can feel a little too sticky or unnatural for some players – however ...

Oct 27, 2010·Ebony is a denser, harder wood than rosewood and as such is, generally speaking, more durable. Ebony Fretboards and Guitar Value
